Killian Grey's Birth Story - One Month Old

Image
Our little guy has been with us for a month now, CRAZY! I wanted to share the story of his journey into the world and how our first few weeks have been. My due date of 1/20/2017 could almost not have come soon enough. I was trying to be patient and enjoy the last few days of it being just Steve and I but I was getting tired of being pregnant and was so excited and anxious to meet our little boy. I didn't want to induce labor because I wanted my body and the baby to let me know when they were ready for labor. During the last 2 weeks or so before my due date, I spent a lot of time walking, drinking red raspberry tea as well as getting a massage, pedicure, bouncing on a birthing ball and even acupuncture to encourage the little boy to not make me wait too long. At about 12:26am Thursday morning, the day before my due date, I was awoken with the start of contractions. I started timing them while I walked around the living room and cleaned to keep busy. If it was going to be time fo

The Happiest New Year

Image
Oh, what a happy new year it is. I am so thankful for 2016. It flew by so so quickly, it's unbelievable. I have had several changes with my job, in positions, (same company, different location) but all for the better. All leading up to us welcoming our little boy into our lives. Steve got a promotion at his job and is set to graduate with his Bachelor's degree by the end of this year. We found out that we would be expanding our family in 2017 and everything (very thankfully) has gone relatively smoothly. I am set to go on leave the end of this week to try and relax and finish preparing for Baby Longsword's arrival in approximately  two and a half weeks. It still feels very unreal that our lives are going to be completely different so soon but I know it'll be our best adventure yet. We really have everything ready for our little one's arrival but there are still things around the house that I want to get done and be able to deep clean the house as well. My main g

Update

About a month ago, Steve and I found out that we were expecting our first child. After our first doctor's appointment, we announced the exciting news to our families and then friends. Only 2 weeks after our first doctor's appointment, I scheduled a visit with my doctor because I thought I had a UTI and wanted to make sure it didn't turn into anything worse. The doctor checked me over and found that I had a just had a bladder infection. Since I was there, and my next appointment wasn't scheduled for another 3 weeks, she wanted to check the heartbeat and make sure everything was okay. She said that she would first try with a little machine that she just pressed against my stomach but said it might still be too soon to hear it that way. She tried for a couple minutes but couldn't hear it. So, she brought in an ultrasound machine to take a better look. I knew instantly that it didn't look right. I have little to no knowledge or experience with ultrasounds but I gu

We're Building a House!

Image
We started the process a little earlier than anticipated but we found a neighborhood and floor plan that we liked so we decided to go for it! We signed the building contract in November and choose all of our options for the house in December. Then on December 30th, they broke ground on our future new home! Today, we had our pre-construction meeting so we know a little more about time frame of the stages. The foundation was supposed to be poured today but with the weather as bad as it was, they have to post pone until Monday. So, Monday the slab goes down and then Tuesday, the frame starts going up! Estimated time-frame of when the house should be complete is mid-late April. I'll post some pictures from time to time throughout the build and of course when it's complete.

It's been too long...

Before I go a whole year without posting, I figured I should update our blog with all of the fantastic, incredible, exciting things we've been up to...well something like that. We are definitely enjoying being in Austin but between work and school, we don't have too much time for much else. I hit my 1 year mark of being with Kia in June and a year ago, man, I could have never even imagined that I would be here today. I didn't realize at the time but I was being presented with the best opportunity I have had thus far. Steve started back to school in August and is doing everything online now. He is working to get his Bachelors in IT Cyber Security. I am so thankful that he has the military to pay for his education! We've taken up gardening and are growing (trying to grow) tomatoes, spinach, pineapple, lemons, cilantro, parsley and basil. Some are more successful than others but our very first tomato has just popped out so we're really excited to be able to eat f

Our First Thanksgiving

Image
After 6 1/2 years of being together, today was Steve and my first Thanksgiving together.  We had a quiet day but I did make the whole spread: turkey, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, grandma's cheese ball, rolls, and pie. It was just the two of us but I do enjoy thanksgiving and I wanted to make a special meal for a pretty momentous holiday for us. After our meal, we relaxed watching movies and shows we like. Days just spent at home relaxing are the best.  I have so much to be thankful for this year and my family is at the top of that list. I am so thankful to have such a wonderful husband who has done so much for me and continues to care for me and our boys every day. I'm thankful to have him as my partner in life. I'm also thankful to have such a loving mother who always is my biggest cheerleader and supporter. This year I am also thankful for having a job that is able to provide for our family. It is by no means my dream job but it has allowed us to get some debt

Trying to Keep the Faith

Steve and I have been living in Austin for about 2 months now and I have been blessed to have some contract work with my old event planning company that I worked for during college. It has given us enough extra income to keep us sustained up until now. Unfortunately, it's not steady enough o have that be all I'm doing. The job market is still really rough and even though Texas is much better off than most states, it's not a good time to need a job. I have been searching high and low, emailing just about every event venue in town and applying to catering, wedding and event companies but no one is hiring.  I've had a couple interviews but they've all been for sales jobs and most either don't pay enough to live on or are purely commission based which makes me very uneasy.  As I was leaving The Westin's lobby from an interview, a man ran after me to see what I was interviewing for and to offer me an interview as well. So I called him the next day and
